The following tests may be used to investigate a possible blocked bile duct:
- Abdominal ultrasound.
- Abdominal CT scan.
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
- Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram (PTCA)
- Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
How do you diagnose biliary obstruction?
If your blood test results suggest biliary obstruction, your doctor may confirm the diagnosis using:
- Ultrasound.
- Computed tomography.
- Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography.
- Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram.
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.
How do you know if your bile duct is obstructed?
What are the symptoms of biliary obstruction?
- light-colored stools.
- dark urine.
- jaundice (yellowish eyes or skin)
- pain in the upper right side of the abdomen.
- nausea.
- vomiting.
- weight loss.
- itching.
